After finishing each of our plays, we have to memorize a dialogue or monologue to perform for the class. This time we had lots of fun with scenes from
The Bourgeois Gentilhomme.

I also highly enjoyed Dr. Welch's lecture after not having class for a week and a half--he went back to Provo for a few days to discuss with some important people an exhibit of old stuff that's coming to BYU and then to London for a chat with some Catholic priests. Something like that. This isn't Dr. Welch. This is Mike playing the bourgeois gentleman who thinks he's Turkish nobility.

After class we embarked on one of the more short and pointless walks. It was fun though. It's all in the people you go with. :) This is the Canal Saint Martin, built between 1802 and 1822 in an effort to bring more fresh water to the city. About that...

This is an old building.

It was funny seeing this because Dr. Welch had just told us a story about riding a Harley when he was a bishop and the youth wanting to film him.

???

This is where the famous fortress-prison the Bastille stood until revolutionaries tore it down brick by brick in 1789 and freed all of 7 prisoners inside. This column was built in 1833 in honor of those who died during the July Revolution of 1830. The remains of over 500 victims of the 1830 and 1848 revolutions are in its base. The gold statue on top is called the Genie of Liberty. Who knew?

Trying to plan our next move.

At least I aimed right this time.

I know the glare is bad, but that was one cool ship chandelier. We also passed some furniture/interior design shops you would have liked, Kace.

The Gare de Lyon, a ginormous famous train station. Along with some other things, it was built for the 1900 World's Fair, which from what I hear, was a pretty big deal. They hosted the second Olympic Games which lasted for 5 months. We looked around inside which is really cool, too. I always get off the station before this one coming into town.

C'mon guys, vary your breads!

Cute little model cars.

Stopping by the bakery across the street.

Jeff was thoroughly amazed at his religieuse.

Can't say I blame him. They're pretty amazing.

Cool clock tower in the same style as Big Ben.

Trying to look nonchalant as a film crew several yards away "discovers" us.

Shoutout to Doris: We saw these books in the train station. Before reading them, Jacqueline had the same "this-is-a-dumb-Buffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-spinoff" attitude but now she's obsessed. For those who don't know, it's the Twilight series, written by a BYU alum and gaining popularity.

Who are these guys? I thought it was girls only in your group.
I'm craving some good pastries after seeing all these fabulous pictures.
Yeah, I second the motion on pastries. One thing I loved about being in France was stopping at the bread and pastry shops. Delicious!
