general conference was amazing. Nichelle and I got up early Saturday to go to Salt Lake, expecting beautiful weather like we'd been having all week, and we opened the door to find it was raining and cold. I had envisioned us promenading around Temple Square, sitting on the grass eating our picnic lunch, taking pictures and generally being adorable. No such luck and no pictures. But it was amazing to see conference in person...my third time! We watched the morning session in the Tabernacle where we happened into Nichelle's friends who had driven from Alberta the day before...without tickets! And were lucky enough to get some! We were lucky enough to get free parking just a couple blocks away, so we ate lunch in the car, then went back for the next session, where I ran into Sister Wright, my old seminary teacher, and her two daughters, one of whom was in my freshman ward! It was so good to see her. It gets better. Who do you think Nichelle happened to sit next to in our balcony seats? Cousin Dan and his girlfriend, who I had just seen the day before at Forrest's reception. Weird. I usually don't really have a "favorite" talk but this time it was an easy pick: Elder Holland. Love him. It also made me really happy to hear from Elder Gérald Caussé. He was in my ward in Versailles and I knew his two oldest daughters who came to institute and all the young adult activities. He drove us home from church once (soooo nice because it took an hour and a half on the train system). And he talked about the Little Prince! How happy. I practically rub shoulders with general authorities now.
North and South Yes, it is forever long, but soooo good. This was our post-conference activity and we got really into it. We had to watch the end three times before we were satisfied. I'm pretty sure I like Wives and Daughters better though.
Sunday I went to the Erdmanns' traditional conference breakfast, where I ate too much of everything, especially the cinnamon rolls, and caught up with Natalie and Dave. Also got a nice dose of adorable children which will have to last me a while. Dan asked where my boyfriend was. It was great. Afterward I went to see Grandma with Uncle Ken, Aunt Chris and Laura. If I haven't seen her in a while I forget how funny she is. She was pretty funny. Told about the time the police came to question Dad after his bike had been stolen and used to commit a crime. Somehow, I remember a very different version. She said the usual Grandmaish things like "Are you eating enough?" and "Oh, you look sooo much like your mother's side of the family."
Oh, speaking of mother's side, here's a funny sidenote. In my family history class we had to each give a short presentation on a genealogy website. I used Grandpa King's name to demonstrate the sweet search capabilities of my site and when the place names came up, Bro. Minert asked me if I was a Box Elder girl. I said no, but my mother is. He said, "oh, I used to teach at Bear River, but don't tell your mother I said that." Um, okay. It gets better. During the same class period, another girl got up to do her presentation and said, "Um, okay, I found a site that has a lot of Canadian census records because that's what I'm interested in." But Bro. M thought she said Acadian, so he said "does everyone know what that refers to? Why don't you explain a little so that we're all on the same page." She gave him the blankest of blank looks, a very long pause, then said to the class, "So...Canadians come from...Canada. It's a large country just north of here." We busted up laughing. That was the best thing that's happened to me all week.

Thanks for the update! I'm glad things are going so well for you. Only in the Church and in Utah can you have so many small-world moments.
Thanks for the laughs, Summer! Glad you had fun at conference despite the weather. (And, where is your boyfriend anyway? ;) J/K
Oh Sum, I miss you. That was good. I miss cinnamon rolls, too.
Oh, Canada. That makes me so happy!
